Building products based on human factors

Planit was built on extensive academic and primary research synthesized through an affinitization process, resulting in 28 key insights that drove the following design process. These insights were further analyzed through a factors tree diagram and five whys breakdown, revealing a uniquely human requirement: people procrastinate because they avoid things that make them uncomfortable, challenged, or afraid. This gave us a root cause to build our product around.

Increasing user retention through sticky feature habits

Planning and procrastination affects people in all aspects of their lives -- not just at their desk. Part of Planit's product-market fit comes from its unique ecosystem of devices: a wearable, like an Apple Watch, a mobile device, like a phone or tablet, and a web app. Each device in the Planit ecosystem serves a unique purpose and fills a different part of the identified unmet needs. This ecosystem, combined with the badge and gamification systems, creates a rewarding experience that increases user retention and drives value discovery.

Synthesizing insights across hundreds of data points

Data was a key factor in product discovery and continuous evaluation of potential solutions. Nearly 700 individual data points were collected and synthesized through multiple rounds of affinitization. This process allowed our team to combine qualitative and quantitative results, making it simple to identify key themes, trends, and patterns across the wide range of research methods we conducted. These themes pointed us towards goals, hypothesies, and benchmarks that focused and drove the product's success.
