Leveraging telemedicine to expedite patient outcomes

nodMD revolutionized the telemedicine experience by giving patients and facilities on-demand access to specialty providers. The rapidly expanding platform provided end-to-end tools meeting the demands of providers, insurers, regulators, and patients to provide the highest level of care while maintaining transparency, timeliness, and compliance.

Earning the right to become a leader

To get the team on board with the book of changes I'd planned, I needed to befriend and earn the trust of many differently motivated people very quickly. My strategies valued empathy to build empowerment and ownership, motivating them to bring their best. I implemented this first on the engineering team I led, and later expanded it to my hiring and management process for the company's first user experience designer.

Thinking small to deliver big

The updated process for product, people, and design leadership resolved our leaders' and investors' key concerns: repetitive delays and lack of progress. Within weeks of the new process implementation, our engineering team hit two major release milestones, including the release of two mobile apps -- the most recent prior release was about five months earlier. Rapid iteration, lean UX, and taking on a minimum viable product mindset allowed us to break down large tasks into meaningful milestones, stop scope creep, and deliver value earlier and more frequently.

Creating method from mayhem

Leadership at nodMD made it clear to me that stakeholders and executives were frustrated by the delays in releases, which frequently happened without reason or explanation. I made it my mission to identify, evaluate, and improve the existing product management and build workflow. This quickly became a company-wide operations initiative, resulting in a comprehensive process book, Agile product management strategy, and implementation guide. I implemented a development strategy and cross-departmental product management workflow in only three months on the team.
